Largest plywood shipment arrives at the Broadway Terminal, Port of Camden

August 18, 2006 – The Marine Vessel Maroudio docked at the Port of Camden yesterday to deliver the largest plywood cargo ever received at the Broadway Terminal.
The 653-foot long ship sailing under Greek registry delivered 18,278 crates of plywood bound for Liberty Woods International, Inc., a major plywood importer and one of the largest clients of the South Jersey Port Corporation (SJPC), the owner and operator of the Port of Camden’s Beckett Street Terminal and Broadway Terminal.
“The arrival of the M/V Maroudio underscores the vitality of the Port of Camden and its position as the number one plywood port in the United States,” said Joseph A. Balzano, executive director of the SJPC. He added, “Ever increasing plywood imports are part of the reason the port is on a pace to record a fourth consecutive year for record cargo tonnages.”
During the first six months of 2006 wood product cargoes increased to 264,673 tons compared to 218,9334 tons during the comparable period in 2005. The ship is expected to be in port for four or five days while the massive plywood cargo from Malaysia and Indonesia is unloaded. The South Jersey Port Corporation is an agency of the State of New Jersey that owns, operates and manages the Ports of Camden and Salem, overseeing the import and export of international bulk, breakbulk and container cargos annually into and through South Jersey.
