The Environment
At Liberty Woods International, Inc. we care about the environment. The wonderful thing about working in the imported hardwoods industry is knowing that the product we buy and sell is a natural resource that is 100% renewable, nontoxic, and fully biodegradable.
Contrary to what some may believe, logging on properly managed forests can actually help to maintain forested lands. Often it is the case that logging bans placed on forests have unintended results of entire loss of forests. Logging bans reduce the forested land value to near zero, giving land owners incentive to clear cut the land to make way for alternative land uses, usually agricultural in nature.
A thriving international market for tropical hardwoods helps to ensure the existence of forested lands for generations to come. In Indonesia alone, over one million acres of land are reforested each year. In Brazil, new logging techniques, called Reduced Impact Logging, are being developed to extract trees in a more environmentally-friendly manner. The hope is that continued improvements in logging techniques, coupled with replanting programs, will allow logging to be limited to a specified section of rain forest, leaving the remaining forests untouched.
